Day 1: Casablanca → Rabat → Fes

Your Morocco itinerary 6 days begins with a personal pickup directly from your hotel or Casablanca airport. As Morocco’s economic powerhouse, Casablanca sets an exciting tone for our journey. Our very first stop is the stunning Hassan II Mosque, a true African architectural landmark. You will stand in awe of its towering 210-meter minaret and the handcrafted marble and carved wood details, all built beautifully right over the crashing waves of the Atlantic Ocean.

We will also take a walk through the historic Kasbah of the Udayas, an ancient Almoravid fortress famous for its peaceful blue-and-white alleys overlooking the Bou Regreg River and the ocean.

In the afternoon, we continue our 6 Day Morocco Itinerary route inland to the imperial city of Fes. On the second day of your Morocco 6 Day itinerary, you will dedicate a full day to exploring the legendary city of Fes—the oldest imperial city in Morocco and a historical center of knowledge, religion, and traditional crafts. We begin our tour deep inside the Old Medina (Fes El Bali), one of the largest car-free urban spaces in the world and a proudly protected UNESCO World Heritage site.

Your journey through time starts at Al-Qarawiyyin University, founded way back in 859 AD and globally recognized as the oldest continuously operating university in the world. Next, you will visit the Bou Inania Madrasa, a breathtaking masterpiece of Marinid architecture filled with finely carved wooden panels and intricate stucco decorations. We will also stop at the beautiful Nejjarine Square to visit the Traditional Carpentry Museum, where you can see the precise tools and techniques used by ancient Moroccan craftsmen.

A major highlight of the day is a visit to the famous Chouara Tannery, one of the oldest leather tanning sites on earth. From the viewing balconies above, you will watch artisans processing leather in massive, colorful stone vats using natural traditional methods.

In the afternoon, you will stand before the iconic Bab Boujloud (the Blue Gate), famous for its vibrant blue and green tilework, before we stroll through the newer parts of the city to observe the fascinating contrast between old and new Fes. In the evening, we guide you back to your traditional riad to rest up and prepare for the big desert trip tomorrow.

When is the best time to visit Morocco for this desert tour?

The best months for this tour are from October to May. During this time, the weather is beautiful and pleasant, and the Sahara desert temperatures are perfect for traveling without the extreme heat of the summer months.

Most riads, hotels, and even the desert camp have free Wi-Fi. However, for a constant connection while driving through the Atlas Mountains, we recommend buying a local Moroccan SIM card (Maroc Telecom or Orange) at Casablanca airport.

Tipping is a part of Moroccan culture but it is entirely optional. If you are happy with the service, a small tip for your private driver, local city guides, and hotel staff is always highly appreciated.

It is highly recommended to drink bottled water throughout the trip. Bottled mineral water is very cheap and available everywhere at local shops, restaurants, and at your accommodations

If you prefer not to do the camel trek, we can easily arrange a 4×4 vehicle transport to take you and your luggage directly to the desert camp across the dunes at no extra cost. You can also choose extra activities in Merzouga such as a quad bike, buggy ride, or horse riding adventure.

Credit cards are accepted in big hotels and modern restaurants in cities like Fes or Marrakech. However, for small shops, local cafes, and buying souvenirs along the road, you will definitely need Moroccan Dirhams cash.

Yes, solo travelers can absolutely book this tour. Since it is a completely private tour, you will have the vehicle and the driver entirely to yourself, allowing you to move at your own perfect pace.

Alcohol is legal in Morocco but it is not sold everywhere. Big supermarkets in Casablanca, Fes, and Marrakech sell it, and some modern hotels or restaurants serve it. However, it is very hard to find in traditional towns and deep in the desert dunes.

Most riads and hotels in Fes and Marrakech offer reliable laundry services for a small extra fee if you stay more than one night. However, there are no laundry facilities available while staying at the Sahara desert camp.

We highly recommend booking at least 2 to 4 months in advance, especially if you plan to travel during the peak seasons of spring or autumn. This helps us secure the best traditional riads and luxury desert camps for your dates.

Unforgettable 6 Days Morocco tour with an amazing team!

Honestly, everything was perfect from day 1 in Casablanca. Our driver was like family to us, very safe driving through the mountains. The desert camp in Merzouga was the best part, we did the quad biking instead of camels and it was amazing! Yes, some days you sit in the car for long hours but the landscape changes every hour so you don’t get bored. Highly recommend Exploring Morocco Trips if you want an unforgettable 6 Days Morocco tour with this family business.

Safe and flexible solo trip – highly recommend!

I was a bit worried traveling alone as a woman but Exploring Morocco Trips made this 6 Days Morocco trip so safe and easy. Our driver Brahim was amazing, so respectful, friendly, and drove very safely through the mountains. In the city, the local guide Lahcen was wonderful and shared so much history about the Marrakech medina and Fes. The riads they chose for me were gorgeous with great breakfast. Tips for others: bring a warm sweater for the desert night, it gets cold! Thanks to Brahim, Lahcen, and the whole team.

Amazing holiday, everything was well organized!

We just finished our 6 Days Morocco itinerary with Exploring Morocco Trips and it was the best decision. The private 4×4 car was super clean and comfortable for all of us. Our driver Brahim was incredibly patient, spoke great English, and always knew the best spots for clean restrooms and lunch along the road. He was so flexible whenever we wanted to change the plan or stop for photos in the mountains. Totally worth every dollar, we will definitely come back!
